Tottenham Hotspur set up an all London Capital One Cup final last night after overcoming Nigel Clough’s Sheffield United side 3-2 on aggregate to bring them to their first cup final since 2009 when they lost to Manchester United after extra time in the same competition.
In the final they will face they force that is Jose Mourinho’s side and will need the likes of Christian Eriksen to be on top form if they are to have any hope of overcoming the league leaders who saw off Liverpool in their semi-final.
Christian Eriksen was once again last night the star man for Spurs scoring two goals in the game and proving a constant danger to the Blades defence. His first goal was a moment of brilliance from a free kick where he curled the ball into the left top corner far beyond the reach of a stranded keeper. Eriksen’s second goal was less spectacular but possibly a better goal, as the Dane bore down on goal one on one with the keeper he did not panic and stayed cool slotting the ball right into the corner giving the keeper absolutely no chance and sending Spurs to Wembley.
Eriksen’s great performance last night was just one of many that the Tottenham Hotspur faithful have become accustomed to. In 33 appearances this campaign Eriksen has scored 10 goals and has 2 assists, a good return for any attacking midfielder but a one that the Danish international is no doubt working hard to improve.
He has become an integral part of Mauricio Pochettino’s side and is now arguably their most talented and coveted player along with young English striker Harry Kane. Eriksen was one of few Andre Villas Boas signings they hit the ground running upon his arrival in the wake of Gareth Bale’s big money move to Real Madrid and his form has not faltered. He will be a key part of Spurs’ assault on the top4 in the remainder of the campaign and will play an integral role as they face off against Chelsea in the Capital One Cup final.
As he continues to perform at this high level, interest from rival clubs is sure to grow. Tottenham are used to losing top players with Bale and Modric leaving in the recent past and their fans will be hoping that when clubs come calling, Eriksen will choose to stay at White Hart Lane.
